Privacy notice

This site sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, uses no analytics or advertising, and has no forms or user accounts. You can read every page without giving us any personal data. This notice explains the few ways in which data about your visit is still processed.

Who is responsible

The controller under Article 4(7) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Berlin Experiences DMC UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Gotlandstraße 10a, 10439 Berlin, Germany, represented by its managing director, Matthew Robinson. Email: info@berlinexperiences.com. Further details are in the imprint.

Hosting and server log files

The site is hosted by Hostinger. When you open a page, your browser sends the server technical information that it needs to deliver the page, and the server records it in log files: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the referring page, the amount of data sent, the status of the request, and your browser’s user-agent string. We use this information only to deliver the site, to keep it secure and stable, and to see in aggregate which pages are read. We do not combine it with other data or use it to identify visitors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Hostinger processes this data on our behalf; see Hostinger’s privacy policy. Log files are kept only as long as these purposes require.

Film and newspaper front pages from the Internet Archive

The films on the film page and the newspaper front pages on the press page and the day pages are held by the Internet Archive (archive.org), a non-profit library in the United States. They are not loaded when you open a page. Only when you press Play on a film, or Show the front pages, does your browser contact archive.org, which then receives your IP address and the technical details listed above, and may process them under its own terms. The legal basis is your request (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in showing primary sources without hosting copies whose rights we cannot establish (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Data may then be processed in the United States. See the Internet Archive’s terms of use.

Fonts, images and links

Fonts, photographs, poster frames and scripts are served from this site, not loaded from third parties. Links to other websites (for example Wikimedia Commons, the Office of the Historian or Hansard) send data to those sites only when you click them; their own privacy policies then apply.

Email

If you write to us, we use your email address and what you write only to answer you and to correct the site, and we delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed for that. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries and keeping the site accurate (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Your rights

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, and to have it corrected, erased or restricted, to data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Articles 15 to 21 GDPR). Write to info@berlinexperiences.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; the authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (datenschutz-berlin.de).
